Cathy Mellett studied art at the University of Pittsburgh with the classically trained sculptors Virgil Cantini, Peter Calaboyius, and Louis Marinaro. Decades later, that training is evident in her choice of subject matter and materials.
In her ArtPrize 2022 sculpture, "Plenty," she draws upon her training to create a sculpture that reflects her love of nature and concern for our environment.
Cathy Mellett is a member of the Ann Arbor Potters Guild and the Huron River Art Collective. She continues her training through workshops and independent study.
Cathy is also a published writer whose stories, essays, and poetry have appeared in The Michigan Quarterly Review, The Yale Review, The Rumpus, The Literary Review, and many other fine literary magazines. She held artist residencies at Yaddo, Ragdale, and Villa Montalvo and is a recipient of a Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Fellowship in Writing.
Her work can be purchased by contacting her or by visiting the June and December Ann Arbor Potters Guild sales at 201 Hill Street, Ann Arbor.
